that the sun does not lose warmth
nor the birds call less
though winter stifles
a flower blooms on a field like a star in the paddock of night
and we are grateful in its presence, made worthy
that we have noticed its life
though our hearts have sunk
because our God, all mighty, can not speak to us
in the way a single flower does.

consumed
as if to fall
